I was encouraged to begin this site after discussions with librarians that suggested my knowledge in retail would benefit the library community. I was still on the fence until a conversation with a woman that told me she had visited her public library the previous day and that it ‘was so nostalgic’ –eek! Another reason I was compelled to begin this blog was due to the fact I was reading on current thought in marketing libraries (being written by instructors and librarians) and read, young users prefer emails to text messages. WHAT??
I am fortunate in that I have a built in ‘young users’ to quiz. Between my college age kids, their friends, girlfriends and boyfriends etc.. I can get a pretty good idea about preferences among them. I have been known to hand out library surveys to visiting friends to explore usage trends.
I hope that as I grow I can add to the discussion that is currently being had regarding marketing and I hope that I can make the fine line we walk in marketing a library more easily understood.
